Welcome Letter
The 14th DGORh-JSRAS Combined Meeting
Keiichiro Nishida
Associate Professor
Department of Orthopedic Surgery
Okayama University Graduate School of Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmaceutical Sciences
Dear colleagues and friends,
On behalf of the organizing committee of Japanese Society for Rheumatoid Arthritis Surgery (JSRAS), we would like to cordially invite you to join us for the 14th DGORh-JSRAS combined meeting, scheduled during August 18-19 in Okayama, Japan. It is our great pleasure and honor to host this meeting with proud history in our city Okayama.
The treatment strategy for rheumatoid arthritis has dramatically changed over the past decade with clinical introduction of biologic agents. However, surgical treatment still holds an important place for non-responders to non-biologic and biologic DMRADs, as a local treatment especially for partial responders, or for patients who cannot use optimal medication due to complications or economic problems. In Japan, the yearly number of surgery for patients under control with biologic agents increased, the number of total joint arthroplasty decreased whereas wrist and finger joint surgery and forefoot surgery increased. Small joint surgeries for younger patients under good disease control tend to shift the joint-preserving surgery.
The rheuma-surgery in the next decade will further shift to seek better functional outcome of the surgery, and better patients' satisfaction by patient-oriented evaluation. In this line, we need to exchange more information and experience than ever.
During these three decades through the past combined meetings started in 1988, we could enhance a lot of knowledge and experience about rheuma-surgery through the exchange of information and discussion, and also could promote mutual benefit and friendship between German and Japanese rheuma-surgeons. We will begin calling abstracts for oral presentation around the beginning of next year on this Home Page. More information will be available on this website soon. In addition, we are pleased to inform that we have asked two distinguished Japanese orthopaedic surgeons to provide scientific lectures; Professor Toshifumi Ozaki (Okayama University) for evening seminar on 18th, August, and Professor Sakae Tanaka (Tokyo University) for luncheon seminar on 19th August.
During your stay in Okayama, we will offer you fine accommodations with a special discount price. More details, and information about "where to visit around Okayama" for personal travel will be also provided at this website.
We hope your wonderful stay in Okayama, and look forward to seeing you all.
