Message from the Meeting President
The 35th Annual Meeting of The Japanese Society of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics
Meeting President:
MASAHIRO NOMOTO
Professor,
Department of Neurology and Clinical Pharmacology,
Ehime University Graduate School of Medicine

I am very pleased to announce that the 35th Annual Meeting of The Japanese Society of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics will be held in Matsuyama, Japan from December 4 to 6, 2014. The theme of this Meeting is “Creating the Future of Japan through Drug Discovery and Clinical Research.” Until the beginning of the Meiji Era, physicians and surgeons in Japan were called “Kusushi (medicine masters).” In English, the term “medicine” that indicates medical science was originally referred to “medicines/drugs.” This clearly shows that the “medicine” is fundamental to the field of medical science all around the world.

Japan has been making a great contribution to the advancement of the automotive and electronic technologies in the world. With the change of the time, contribution of present Japan to the healthcare sector in the world is expected to increase, especially to promote discovery, development, and safe use of drugs. The Japanese Society of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics plays an important role in the advancement of the fields of medicine and healthcare in the future. Thus, the meeting theme “Creating the Future of Japan through Drug Discovery and Clinical Research” was inspired by this point of view.

The city of Matsuyama was the scene used in the famous book, “Clouds above the Hill”, written by Ryotaro Shiba. People who lived during the Meiji Era, such as Shiki Masaoka and the Akiyama brothers, built the foundation of contemporary Japan as if they were running up the hill, aiming for a mass of clouds in the sky. In the city of Matsuyama, there runs the Botchan train (“Botchan” is the name of the famous book written by Soseki Natsume), and stands the Matsuyama Castle towering over the center of the city. Its historical scenery may induce nostalgia for the old-time Japan during the Meiji Era. We hope that you will be able to view our path throughout the history and prospects for the future as you walk through the streets in Matsuyama.

We look forward to your active participation and enthusiastically welcome you to Matsuyama.
